Professional Communication Certificate

Communication methods and expectations are constantly evolving. Whether you pursue a career in academia, industry, government or a non-government organization, the ability to communicate clearly to your audience will set you apart. Organizations value employees who are skilled in all forms of communication, from verbal presentations to written communications to social media. Complement your graduate program and give yourself an edge in a competitive job market by enrolling in our communications certificate program.

The Graduate Professional Skills certificate in Professional Communication is offered to all graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in developing their professional communication skills. The certificate program consists of workshops focused on communication concepts, public speaking practices, intercultural communication and effective use of communication technologies in professional contexts.

For a comprehensive outline of the communication certificate requirements, see our Professional Communication Certificate document. To express interest in this certificate, complete the online registration form.

Teaching and Learning Certificate

The Teaching and Learning Centre offers a Certificate in University Teaching to all teaching assistants and graduate students who are interested in developing their teaching practice and engaging in a community of practice along with their peers in the Ontario Tech teaching community. The richness of the program is in shared experiences and the new connections that are formed.

The certificate program consists of 14 modules, which include an examination of learning theories, issues in academic integrity, intercultural communication, and an exploration into learning technology. Participants will also have the opportunity to facilitate modules with their peers. A presentation on personal teaching philosophies and teaching best practices will conclude the program. There are two in-person modules, at the beginning and at the end of the program. The remaining 12 modules are delivered online through Adobe Connect (for synchronous modules) and Blackboard (for asynchronous modules). Each of the 14 modules takes approximately three hours to complete.

Please check the Teaching and Learning Centre website to review additional information, upcoming schedules and to register.
