Ancillary fees

The following are ancillary fees for graduate students studying in both flat-fee and fee-per-credit programs in the 2024-2025 academic year. These ancillary fees commence September 2024.

Fees vary for full-time and part-time graduate students, as indicated below.

Ancillary fees are in addition to tuition fees (domestic and international).

Please note: 
The fees ensure students will continue to have access to important services including the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) and the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU) Health and Dental Plan. and resources throughout the full academic year, including those that are now being delivered at a distance. Other fees cover the year-round costs for maintaining and operating buildings and facilities for student use that are not funded through general university revenues.

    International Health Insurance

    Health insurance plan for international students at the University

    The International Health Insurance fee is charged to all full-time international students on an annual basis. International graduate students who start their program in January or May will be charged a pro-rated amount for their International Health Insurance. You will still be responsible for the full annual amount the following September.

    Please visit the International Office's website for additional information regarding the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) and the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU) Health and Dental Plan.


Ancillary fees you may choose to opt out of (2024–2025)

  • Health and Dental Plan (full-time students only)

    The Health and Dental Plan provides coverage to supplement the provincial health plan. This includes prescription, dental, vision, travel and more.

    The fee for full-time students beginning their studies in Fall 2024 is $305.64 and is charged on an annual basis. Graduate students who start their program in January or May will be charged a pro-rated amount for health and dental (January: $247.00; May: $188.97). You will still be responsible for the full annual amount the following September. 

  • Legal Protection Program (full-time students only)

    Through the OTSU, the Legal Protection Program provides students with access to legal representation for housing, employment, and academic discipline disputes and an informational legal hotline for all areas of law.

    The fee for full-time students beginning their studies in Fall 2024 is $33.24 and is charged on an annual basis. 

  • My Virtual Doctor (full-time students only)

    My Virtual Doctor provides domestic and international students and immediate families with individual access to qualified medical care through a virtual platform 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week to address many of the common concerns faced by students.

    The fee for full-time students beginning their studies in Fall 2024 is $44.07 and is charged on an annual basis.

Fees are subject to change without notice. Every effort has been made to ensure that the fees listed on this page are accurate. In the event of an inconsistency between the fees published here and those approved by the university’s Board of Governors and/or administration, the latter shall prevail.

No ancillary fees will be refunded after the first 10 lecture days in any semester.
