Fall 2025 Graduate Orientation

Welcome to Graduate Studies at Ontario Tech University! The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is delighted to welcome you to our vibrant graduate community. To ensure you’re fully prepared to begin your graduate studies, we would like to invite you to our Graduate Student Orientation Session.

Join us on Wednesday, September 3 for our Graduate Student Orientation session at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, Gym 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. This session is your opportunity to learn how SGPS can support your success by providing guidance and resources every step of the way.

The orientation will feature a welcome address by the Deputy Provost and the Dean of SGPS, followed by an overview of SGPS services available that will enhance your graduate experience.

After the session, explore various booths where you can connect with representatives from faculties and key university departments, including Finance, Registration, Academic Affairs, Thesis Support and the International Office. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions, find resources, and discover ways to get involved.

  • Unlock Your Academic Potential: Teaching and Learning Centre / Student Learning Centre information session - Monday, August 11 from 10 to 11 a.m.

    Discover how the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) & Student Learning Centre (SLC) at Ontario Tech can support your success as a student. This session will introduce you to a wide range of free resources and services designed to enhance your learning experience—whether you're studying in-person, online, or in a hybrid format.

  • Graduate Groundwork: Understanding Student Expectations - Wednesday, August 13 from 1 to 2 p.m.

    Congratulations on advancing to the next phase of your academic career! As you transition from undergraduate to graduate studies, you'll encounter new and increased expectations. Join Shelly Windsor, our Graduate Academic Affairs Specialist from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS), for an informative workshop. Shelly will guide you through your responsibilities, covering essential topics such as university policies, important deadlines, program time limits, research ethics, academic integrity, and more. Gaining a clear understanding of these expectations from the start will be crucial for your success!

  • Student Accessibility Services: Getting Started as a Graduate Student - Friday, August 15 from 2 to 3 p.m.

    Hosted by Student Accessibility Services (SAS), this session will introduce the supports available for students with disabilities, including learning and physical disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses, sensory impairments, and temporary injuries. Participants will learn how to register with SAS, navigate the SAS Portal to manage accommodations and test bookings, and access services such as academic coaching and peer supports. This session is a valuable first step in creating an accessible and supportive academic experience at Ontario Tech.

  • Ready, Set, Succeed: Kickstart Your Academic Journey - Wednesday, August 20 from 1 to 2 p.m.

    With the fall semester fast approaching, this session will answer any questions you have prior to arriving on campus. Representatives from the Faculty Graduate Offices and the Office of the Registrar will be in attendance along with members of the Graduate Studies team.

    If you have any questions about registration, ancillary fees, campus services, or paying your fees this is the session for you.

  • New to Ontario Tech: TA Orientation Program - Tuesday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    With the fall semester approaching, get ready to step confidently into your role as a Teaching Assistant by joining our upcoming orientation session with the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). This online session will introduce you to key aspects of the TA experience, including expectations, using the Canvas Learning Management System, presenting with purpose, and applying inclusive teaching practices. You’ll also gain tips for supporting students in various settings, like tutorials and labs. and learn how to continue growing professionally throughout the term. The deadline to register is Friday, August 22.

    Kickstart your graduate life at Ontario Tech with a weekend full of fun, making connections, and campus spirit! From campus tours, food, and entertainment, there's something for everyone to enjoy. It's the perfect opportunity to meet fellow grad students, explore campus and celebrate the start of your graduate journey.

  • Campus Explorers: Ontario Tech Tours

    Explore our vibrant campus with the recruitment team. A dedicated tour guide will provide a tour specifically designed for students, guiding you through the north Oshawa campus or Downtown Oshawa campus. Get acquainted with our academic buildings, classrooms, study spaces, and student service areas, ensuring you become familiar with all the essential locations for your academic journey. This will be an in-person tour.
