We invite you to participate in our pre-orientation engagement sessions this summer. These sessions are designed to equip you with tips, tricks and resources to ensure a smooth transition into the fall semester.

Pre-Orientation 2024

  • Registration Roadmap – Tuesday, June 18 | noon to 1 p.m.

    This session offers valuable insights into Ontario Tech's graduate course registration process. Michelle Cholak, the Senior Graduate Admissions & Registration Officer from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS), will explain when, where, and how to register. You’ll also learn how to use the graduate academic calendar, keep track of important term dates, and understand essential registration policies. Please come prepared with all your registration questions!

  • Campus Explorers: Ontario Tech Tour – Wednesday, June 19 | 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
    Explore our eco-friendly campus with Kennedy Latour, our Graduate Student Engagement Coordinator from the School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS). Kennedy will provide a tour specifically designed for graduate students, guiding you through the North campus. Get acquainted with our academic buildings, classrooms, study spaces, and student service areas, ensuring you become familiar with all the essential locations for your academic journey. This will be an in-person tour. Participants will meet in the lobby of the Software and Informatic Research Centre.
  • Library Launchpad: Your Guide to Campus Resources – Tuesday, June 25 | 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

    Discover the wealth of library resources available to you with Ontario Tech's Librarian Liaisons, Kaelan Caspary (Faculty of Science) and Chelsie Lalonde (Faculty of Social Science and Humanities & Faculty of Education). In this session, tailored for graduate students, you'll learn about Ontario Tech's extensive collections, welcoming learning spaces, and the diverse services and programs provided by our knowledgeable and friendly library team.

  • Navigating the International Office – Thursday, July 4 | 1 to 2 p.m.

    Join Ashley Wu, an International Student Advisor at Ontario Tech University's International Office, for an informative session designed specifically for incoming international graduate students. Ashley will provide valuable support and answer your questions on a range of topics, including pre-arrival preparations, arrival procedures, and immigration-related matters. Don't miss this opportunity to gain important insights and ensure a smooth transition to your studies at Ontario Tech.

    Congratulations on advancing to the next phase of your academic career! As you transition from undergraduate to graduate studies, you'll encounter new and increased expectations. Join Shelly Windsor, our Graduate Academic Affairs Specialist from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS), for an informative workshop. Shelly will guide you through your responsibilities, covering essential topics such as university policies, important deadlines, program time limits, research ethics, academic integrity, and more. Gaining a clear understanding of these expectations from the start will be crucial for your success at Ontario Tech!

  • Graduate Finance Essentials – Tuesday, July 30 | noon to 1 p.m.

    Enhance your understanding of graduate finances with Gail Fuller, our Graduate Services Coordinator from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS). In this session, Gail will address all your questions about funding, Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA), Teachings Assistantships (TA/RA) and scholarships. She will also provide information on tuition fees, payment options and deadlines.

Fall Orientation 2024

  • SGPS In-person General Orientation
    We invite all incoming graduate students to attend our in-person orientation event on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This welcome session will provide essential information about your graduate education and introduce you to campus services. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow new graduate students. Don’t miss out!
