Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Kimberley Black Graduate Scholarship

The Kimberley Black Graduate Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a graduate degree full-time or part-time in the Faculty of Education who demonstrate a commitment to issues pertaining to women, including, but not limited to: women’s health and wellness, safety and career growth.

  • Eligibility

    Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria: 

    • Demonstrate a commitment to issues pertaining to women, including but not limited to women’s health and wellness, safety and career growth;
    • Have a research interest in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion;
    • Have personally experienced marginalization socially, professionally or academically;
    • Have an academic background in gender studies or professional background in advocacy work related to gender;

    Applicants must:

    • Be pursuing a graduate degree full-time or part-time in the Faculty of Education;
    • Be in good academic standing (2.7 GPA or higher); and
    • Be within their standard program length (for example, two years for a master’s program).
    • Be in a project or thesis-based program.

    Documents required:

    • Statement (minimum 500 words) in which the applicant will elaborate upon the award criteria that are personally relevant to them.
    • At least one letter of support, that is either from:
      1. a professor in the graduate program or a previously undertaken program who speak can speak to the applicant's personal experience relevant to this application; or
      2. a professional who speak can speak to the applicant’s professional experience relevant to this application
    •  Transcripts

    Please note that GPA may be factored into the decision-making process.

    A complete application includes the following:

    • Award application
    • At least one letter of support, that is either from:
      1. a professor in the graduate program or a previously undertaken program who speak can speak to the applicant's personal experience relevant to this application; or
      2. a professional who can speak to the applicant’s professional experience relevant to this application
        The letters of reference must be submitted to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies or by email to gradscholarships@ontariotechu.ca.
    • Please advise your references that their letter must be received by the application deadline date or your application will be incomplete and will not be reviewed.
