Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Proof of citizenship

All incoming students are required to submit the following documentation in order to commence graduate studies at the university. An official email will be sent with the submission deadline. Documents are due approximately three weeks prior to the start of the program*.  All proof of citizenship documents are to be sent to gradadmissions@ontariotechu.ca. 

Canadian citizens/permanent residents must submit a copy of one of the following:

  • Birth certificate from a Canadian province or territory
  • Certificate of Indian Status (paper or plastic card)
  • Registered Indian Record (certified)
  • Valid Canadian passport
  • Canadian Immigration Identification Card
  • Permanent Resident Card

International students must submit copies of all of the following**:

  • Valid study permit or study permit approval letter
  • Valid passport
  • Valid Canadian visa

All incoming students are required to submit proof of citizenship (including students who have completed undergraduate studies at the university).

Please note that you may receive emails from gradadmissions@ontariotechu.ca, to remind you of the submission deadline. Please check your email regularly, including your junk or spam mail to ensure you have not missed these communications.

*Deadline is subject to change.
**International students in online programs are exempt from submitting copies of study permits and Canadian visas. Only a copy of a passport or birth certificate is required.
