Earlier this semester, it was announced that Dr. Bernadette Murphy was named Acting Dean of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS). This news follows the recent appointment of former SGPS Dean, Dr. Langis Roy, to the position of Deputy Provost.

An MSc and PhD graduate from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, Dr. Murphy was a key faculty member in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science, having established a Master of Science in Exercise Rehabilitation program. Not soon after, she joined Ontario Tech University and led efforts to establish the Kinesiology program before serving two years as Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Health Sciences from 2016 to 2018. She also served as Associate Dean for SGPS in 2018 as well as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences from March 2019 to June 2020.

Dr. Murphy is the Director of Ontario Tech’s Human Neurophysiology and Rehabilitation Laboratory. The overall theme of her research is neural plasticity (adaptation) in humans, investigating how technology use and accompanying altered postures and fatigue may lead to maladaptive neuroplasticity.

She has been presented with the World Federation of Chiropractic best scientific paper award in 1995, and named the New Zealand Chiropractor of the year in 2004. She has also been named the 2010 Ontario Chiropractic Association award for most significant contributions to research, and, in 2014, was the recipient of Ontario Tech University’s Research Excellence Award (Senior category).

We wish Dr. Murphy a very warm welcome!
