Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards

The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA) are a new, one-time initiative for 2026 aimed at bringing international research talent to Canadian institutions.

Value

This award is valued at $70,000 per year for two years for postdoctoral fellows.

Who can be a nominator?

A nominator must:

  • Be an Ontario Tech faculty member eligible to supervise postdoctoral fellows
  • Be the primary holder of an active grant (i.e., any received/planned payment in the period April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2027) on the list of agency-specific eligible funding opportunities on the award website
  • Commit to providing appropriate supervisory guidance to the nominee (if successful) in a research training environment

Who can be nominated?

A nominee must:

  • Not have a current affiliation with a Canadian institution
  • Not hold a tenure or tenure-track appointment
  • Not be currently benefitting from other tri-agency (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) funds for the same purpose
  • Not be holding and have never held a postdoctoral scholarship from any of the federal granting agencies
  • Be currently studying or working outside of Canada
  • Be eligible to undertake postdoctoral research at Ontario Tech as of the award activation date (no later than March 31, 2027)
  • Be proposing research within one of the priority research areas listed on the award website

Both Canadian and non-Canadian citizens can be eligible as long as they are not currently affiliated with a Canadian institution and are studying or working outside Canada.

Application Process

The application deadline is February 20, 2026.

Faculty members interested in participating should review the guidelines, nomination form, and instructions available on Google Drive.

Completed nomination forms should be sent to SGPSDean@ontariotechu.ca no later than February 20, 2026.
