We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Finding A Supervisor

  • How do I find a supervisor?
    Prior to beginning the application process for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, you are strongly encouraged to connect with Faculty members at the University working in your field of research. You may review a list of faculty members and their research interests on each of our faculty websites or through the university's Expert Centre.

  • Deadlines and Application Support
    How firm is the Ontario Tech Internal Banting Competition deadline? 

    Due to a very tight working schedule, the Ontario Tech internal Banting competition deadline is a firm deadline. 

    Do you have examples of successful Banting applications from previous years?

    Unfortunately, we are unable to share examples of successful Banting applications from previous competitions. 

  • Application Components
    Can I submit my CCV in Draft format? 

    For the purpose of the Ontario Tech internal Banting competition only, you may submit your CCV in draft format. 

    Do I have to submit references for the Ontario Tech Internal Banting Competition? 

    Referee letters are required for the internal selection process. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) does not have access to letters of reference submitted through the ResearchNet application system. Referees should be instructed by the applicant to submit a confidential copy of their letter to postdocs@ontariotechu.ca by the internal application deadline. For more information on referee letters, please see the Ontario Tech Banting PDF website.

    Is a Supervisor’s Statement required for the Ontario Tech Internal Banting Competition? 

    Yes, Supervisor’s Statements are required for the Ontario Tech internal Banting competition and must meet the Banting PDF Supervisor’s Statement requirements.

    Should my supervisor submit the Supervisor’s Statement directly? 

    No. The Supervisor’s Statement should be submitted as part of the electronic Banting application package submitted to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS). 

    Who needs to sign the Fulfillment of Degree Requirements form? 

    The Fulfillment of Degree Requirements form should be completed by the institution at which you completed your doctoral degree.

    Current doctoral students or graduates of a doctoral program at Ontario Tech should send the form to gradstudies@ontariotechu.ca for signature.

    How do I submit my application?

    Applications must be submitted as one continuous PDF file, in the following order:

    1. ResearchNet Application Details
    2. Canadian Common CV (Vanier-Banting Academic Template)
    3. Significance of research contributions    
    4. Significance of leadership contributions    
    5. Fulfillment of Degree Requirements Form    
    6. If applicable, Special circumstances    
    7. Research Proposal

    9. Supervisor’s Statement    

    Please name the PDF file “Lastname, Firstname”.

    Please note that the application must be submitted by the applicant directly, rather than by the Supervisor/PI or the proposed unit or faculty. 

    How do I download my application details from ResearchNet?

    Within your ResearchNet site:

    • Under Banting Postdoctoral Fellows Program
    • Apply for Funding section
    • Go to Tasks
    • Click on Preview (6th item on the list)
    • Under Application Materials
    • Click on Preview in Application Details (should generate a PDF file)
    • Save the file.
    Can I submit a paper application?

    No. Submissions must be made electronically to postdocs@ontariotechu.ca

  • Adjudication and Results
    How are Ontario Tech nominees selected?

    The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) will review all applications for eligibility. All eligible applications may be forwarded to a Faculty Selection Committees for review, then the Faculty recommendations are reviewed by a University Selection Committee (USC) to identify the applications to be put forward for institutional endorsement.

    When will I know if I have been selected as a Banting nominee by Ontario Tech?

    The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) will notify all applicants of the results of the internal competition by email no later than Friday, September 3, 2021.


Ontario Tech Nominees

  • I have been selected as a nominee by Ontario Tech. Now what?

    Ontario Tech Banting nominees will receive a copy of the Institutional Letter of Support required by Banting in PDF format by email prior to the Banting final submission deadline.  

    In some years, the University Selection Committee will provide suggestions to the nominee or the nominees proposed supervisor to strengthen the application.

    All required documents must be uploaded by the Ontario Tech nominees to ResearchNet in order to complete the Banting application process. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all components of the application including the Letter of Endorsement and appropriate referee assessments are submitted by the final deadline of Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 20:00 EDT.
  • How do I get the Institutional Letter of Support?
